Eat, Pray, Shop
I recently completed reading the book Eat, Pray, Love. You know, the book that 99% of the women are carrying around to their doctor visits and hair appointments. The funny part is, while toting the book around, many women will approach you, asking what you think of the book. I am yet to find the person who loved this book. But it does have some interesting points. In Italy, she basically spends her four months there eating delicious foods. In India, she prays and meditates in not the best conditions, and in Indonesia she falls in love. I think the draw to the book is her escape from her normal life for 1 year. You do learn a few life lessons while reading the book. In India, she also gets a Guru. And I thought to myself- a Guru? Who would actual say they have one of these....then I realized I had one myself! My friend Robin is my Guru- though my fashion and style guru may be a better name for her. On a recent pilgrimage from the Plainview Coffee Shop to The Shoe Box , I discovered I have this guru. After eating a Tuna Quickie at the coffee shop (yes a little different from the author eating Gelato in Italy), Robin decided a trip to a shoe store was needed. So, I met her over at the next shopping center. While waiting for my guru to park the car, I casually browsed through the shoes and bags. Almost like a child at museum geared for adults, I really wasn't absorbing much. Then Robin entered wearing her Tory Birch shoe boots and Gold aviator Ray Bans (make metal note- buy gold aviator Ray Bans- looks very cool). I felt like I just entered Israel with a renowned rabbi and this spiritual leader was going to show me the light. Robin looks at everything. I followed her around like Friday from Robinson Caruso. She would pick up a shoe, turn it around, point out different shoes etc. She would tell you which shoes she has, needs and wants. Each shoe has its own purpose. No two shoes should do the same thing nor one shoe cover two jobs. My guru told me to purchase these Sam Edelman Gladiator shoes. Though she does not own them, something about thick ankles, I need to have these shoes. I tried them on in hot pink, they did not have my size in any color I wanted. This is where my guru interjected how popular these shoes are and that I need to continue my journey to obtain them. My guru also picked up a royal/maybe cobalt blue bag, disclosing to me that this color is very hot this season ( make mental note to buy blue bag soon). My guru has also introduced me to Channel Black Satin Nail Polish, Full Blooded Swatch Watch and Our Signature Pumpkin Peel- so she has a pretty good track record. I am definitely considering some Tory Birch wedges. Still undecided on the gladiator shoes. Yes, I do agree everyone needs a Guru- some from India, some from Nassau County.... Until my next self discovery Sherry B.
